11th form regular

image The following excerpt may provide you some information on the type of text you’ll face in your next test:

“There are growing forces making this way of life almost impossible to attain or maintain, even for the wealthy. If you are among the lucky few who still have the kind of life outlined above, these same forces threaten you.   Whether you live in an isolated small town or a big city and prefer your anonymity as well as the multiplicity of things available to you, these same forces will erode your security and ability to make choices for yourself. These forces are manifested as consumerism.”

The comprehension part will have only three groups: the first one is a True/False exercise; the second is a completion exercise (you are asked to complete sentences according to the text, using your own words as far as possible); the third consists of two questions, one of them being of personal nature.

The production part will consist of 4 topics. The students should choose only one. Apart from those items that have already been largely suggested, I’ve joined another one, which is a comment on a teenager’s sentence focusing the problematic of the importance of one’s image to face life.  That’s all folks!

Good luck!

11 form “Somewhere over the Rainbow”

ray charles

Let me offer you this song by Ray Charles. Listen to it by clicking on the play button and follow the lyrics

Somewhere over the rainbow
Way up high,
There's a land that I heard of
Once in a lullaby.

Somewhere over the rainbow
Skies are blue,
And the dreams that you dare to dream
Really do come true.

Someday I'll wish upon a star
And wake up where the clouds are far
Behind me.
Where troubles melt like lemon drops
Away above the chimney tops
That's where you'll find me.

Somewhere over the rainbow
Bluebirds fly.
Birds fly over the rainbow.
Why then, oh why can't I?

If happy little bluebirds fly
Beyond the rainbow
Why, oh why can't I?

written work Writing activity

There are at least four options, so far:

1. Build an ad display with appealing slogan and persuasive text. Add picture and publish it in your e-portfolios.

2. Analyse a display, commenting on its attractive characteristics and explaining how effective its strategies are.

3. Find out (through an inquiry) the attitude people have towards the advertising, both in papers/magazines and on the radio/TV/Internet.

4. Make a survey to find out the main differences between Christmas time today and in the old times (sixty or seventy years ago).

Don’t forget: you’ve got only two weeks. Have a nice time.
